Grade Calculator

Last updated: March 25, 2026

Calculate your grade from multiple assignment scores. Enter each score with its maximum possible points and an optional weight, then see your overall percentage, letter grade, GPA on a 4.0 scale, and pass/fail status. Whether you are a high school student tracking your grades for college applications, a college student managing multiple courses, or a parent monitoring academic progress, this calculator provides instant, accurate results. For weighted grading, enter a weight value for each assignment (for example, midterm = 30, final = 40) and the calculator applies the correct weighted average formula. Add as many assignments as you need to get a complete picture of your academic standing.

How the Grade Calculator Works

  • -Enter each assignment score along with its maximum possible points. For a simple average, leave the weight fields blank. For weighted grading, assign a weight to each entry (for example, midterm = 30, final = 40).
  • -The calculator divides each score by its max to get a percentage per entry. Without weights, it averages all percentages equally. With weights, it multiplies each percentage by its weight, sums those products, and divides by the total weight.
  • -The final percentage is then converted to a letter grade (A+ through F), a GPA value on the standard 4.0 scale, and a pass/fail determination (60% is the passing threshold).

Understanding Weighted Grades

  • -Many courses use weighted grading, where different assignment types count differently toward your final grade. A typical breakdown might be: Exams 40%, Homework 25%, Projects 25%, Participation 10%.
  • -With weighted grading, a 95% on an exam worth 40% contributes more to your grade than a 95% on homework worth 25%. The formula is: Final Grade = (Category1 Average x Weight1 + Category2 Average x Weight2 + ...) / Total Weight.
  • -Example: If you have a 90% exam average (weight 40) and 85% homework average (weight 25), the calculation is (90 x 40 + 85 x 25) / 65 = (3600 + 2125) / 65 = 88.1%.

Standard Grading Scale

  • -The standard US grading scale converts percentages to letter grades and GPA points as follows.
  • -A+ (97-100%) = 4.0 GPA, A (93-96%) = 4.0, A- (90-92%) = 3.7, B+ (87-89%) = 3.3, B (83-86%) = 3.0, B- (80-82%) = 2.7, C+ (77-79%) = 2.3, C (73-76%) = 2.0, C- (70-72%) = 1.7, D (60-69%) = 1.0, F (below 60%) = 0.0.
  • -Some schools use different scales, so check your syllabus for your specific course's grading policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

To calculate your current grade, add up all your scores and divide by the number of assignments for a simple average. If your course uses weighted categories, multiply each category's average by its weight percentage, then add those products together. For example, if you have three test scores of 85, 90, and 88, your simple average is (85 + 90 + 88) / 3 = 87.7%. For weighted grades, if tests are worth 50% and you have homework worth 50% at a 92% average, your weighted grade would be (87.7 x 0.50) + (92 x 0.50) = 89.85%. Our grade calculator handles both simple and weighted averages automatically. Just enter your grades and weights, and it computes your current standing instantly.
